As the Country Director–Kenya and a Food Systems Researcher, Dr. Yumbya leads agricultural research programs aimed at enhancing food security. She provides strategic leadership and oversees the operations of the ICED Kenya office, including business development, human resources, fundraising, and organizational growth.
Penina holds a PhD in Horticulture from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She has a proven track record in managing donor-funded innovation programs and grant management processes across various agricultural sectors. Her expertise lies in building and leading multi-stakeholder programs that strengthen value chains, promote capacity building, and deliver market-driven solutions for smallholder farmers.
Her passion for making a positive societal impact—aligned with ICED’s focus on evidence-based research, innovation, and continuous monitoring and evaluation—drives her work.
When she isn’t applying her skills in research and innovation to inform policy, Penina finds immense joy and fulfillment in nature walks.
