Dr. Godfrey Obwina Atsiaya is a seasoned agricultural economist and research professional with extensive experience in climate change adaptation, agricultural innovation, and sustainable development. As a Program Officer and Research Fellow at the International Center for Evaluation and Development (ICED), he applies his research expertise to support evidence-based programming, policy engagement, and capacity building across Africa. His work focuses on promoting climate-resilient food systems, inclusive agricultural value chains, and youth entrepreneurship.
Dr. Atsiaya brings a data-driven and policy-oriented perspective to his role as he is highly skilled in quantitative and qualitative research, impact evaluation and policy-relevant data synthesis. He specializes in climate-resilient food systems, inclusive agricultural value chains, and youth-centered development strategies. His research integrates rigorous data analysis with contextual policy insights, supporting national and regional efforts to build adaptive capacity in agriculture and rural livelihoods. Prior to joining ICED, he held key positions with the TAGDev programme at Egerton University, where he led initiatives in student incubation, entrepreneurship promotion, and inclusive employment strategies. He also served as a Research Fellow with the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP), contributing to the design, testing, and dissemination of climate-smart technologies in collaboration with KALRO and the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Dr. Atsiaya holds a PhD and MSc in Agricultural Economics from Egerton University, Kenya, with a focus on agribusiness and climate resilience. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and presented his research at major regional conferences, addressing themes such as access to agrometeorological information, smallholder adaptation strategies, and climate policy.
His expertise in research design, data analysis, and program implementation is complemented by a deep commitment to inclusive development. He has consulted for organizations such as the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), ICRAF, and Sustainet Group, contributing to impact assessments and value chain evaluations across East Africa.
In his role at ICED, he is committed to advancing research, strengthening partnerships, and driving sustainable development solutions that respond to Africa’s evolving climate and food security challenges.
