The InternationalCenter for Evaluation and Development (ICED) is an independent, African-owned and led think tankthat works to enhance the generation, synthesis, and uptake of evidence forbetter policy and action through research, innovation, monitoring andevaluation. PositionSummary
ICED is seeking an experiencedCommunication and Evidence Synthesis Specialist to translate complex researchfindings from ICED's research teams into clear, actionable, andaudience-appropriate products. The Specialist will work at the interface ofresearch and communication, converting technical evidence into policy briefs,presentations, media content, and digital/social media products that informdecision-making by policymakers, government officials, developmentpractitioners, and the public. The specialist will support proposal developmentby contributing communication and dissemination plans for new projects. Therole is based in Nairobi and will support multiple ICED research teams acrossprojects and countries.
KeyResponsibilities
Evidence Synthesis
- Review,synthesize, and translate technical data and studies from ICED research portals into accessible, non-technical language.Demonstrate experience in evidence synthesis methodologies,
- Developevidence-based decision-making products, including policy briefs, technicalsummaries, fact sheets, infographics, blogs, opinion pieces, executive briefs,toolkits, posters, checklists, guidelines, knowledge products, and slide decks,tailored to the needs of specific audiences.
- Workingclosely with researchers and technical leads to accurately distilling keymessages, findings, and recommendations without compromising technicalintegrity.
- Maintaina repository of synthesized evidence products for reuse and adaptation acrossICED's research portfolio. and maintaining an institutional knowledge management systemwhich ensures that products are easily accessible for future use.
Communications &Content Development
- Designand produce communication materials (briefs, reports, newsletters, videos,infographics) for policymakers, government officials, developmentpractitioners, media, and the public.
- ManageICED's social media presence and digital communication channels, developingcontent calendars and audience-appropriate messaging.
- Support the update of ICED website to ensure that research outputsare uploaded promptly.
- Draftpress releases, media briefs, and talking points, and support media engagementand interviews for ICED researchers and leadership.
- Ensureconsistent branding, tone, and quality across all external-facing evidence andcommunication products.
- Ensure that allcommunication products comply with donor branding and visibility requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement& Dissemination
- Managethe ICED ALL-IN Network and support theplanning and execution of dissemination events, webinars, workshops, and policydialogues with government and development partners which includes coordinatingpublication launches and conference presentations.
- Buildand maintain relationships with media contacts, policymakers, and developmentpractitioners to expand the reach and uptake of ICED's evidence.
- Trackand report on the reach, engagement, and influence of communication andevidence products including monitoring communication KPIs and producing periodic analyticsreports to inform the communication strategy.
Cross-Team Support
- Serveas a communications and evidence-synthesis resource across multiple concurrentICED research teams and projects.
- Provideguidance and light training to researchers on effective science communicationand policy engagement. This will include developing communication guidelines,templates and standard operating procedures for researchers.
- Performother related duties as assigned by the Research Director.
Language
Excellent command of written and spokenEnglish. Working knowledge of French will be an added advantage
Qualifications& Experience
- Bachelor’sdegree in communications, Public Health, Public Policy, Development Studies, InternationalDevelopment, Knowledge Management, Journalism, or a related field; Master'sdegree preferred.
- Atleast 4-6 years of relevant experience in science/health communication,knowledge translation, or evidence synthesis, ideally in a research,evaluation, or development context.
- Demonstratedexperience producing policy briefs, reports, or communication products forpolicymakers, government audiences, or development practitioners.
- Experiencemanaging social media and digital communication channels for an organization orprogram.
- Experience usinganalytics tools (Google Analytics, LinkedIn Analytics, Meta Business Suite,etc.) to measure communication impact.
- Familiaritywith nutrition, public health, or international development sector preferred.
- Priorexperience working with or alongside research/evaluation teams is an advantage.
Skills& Competencies
- Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability tosimplify technical content for non-technical audiences.
- Stronggraphic/visual communication skills (e.g., proficiency with design tools suchas Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
- Familiarity withAI-assisted communication tools, video editing software and data visualizationtools (e.g., Power BI or Tableau) where appropriate.
- Strongproject management and organizational skills, with the ability to managemultiple deliverables across teams and deadlines.
- Soundunderstanding of evidence-based policymaking processes and stakeholderengagement in government/development settings.
- Mediarelations experience and comfort engaging with journalists and publicaudiences.
- Collaborative,proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent stakeholdermanagement and relationship-building skills.
