Sylvia Mwichuli

Director for Communication, Policy Engagement and Convening

Ms. Sylvia Mwichuli a Kenyan national has over 18 years leadership and management experience in policy design and implementation, knowledge management, campaigning for social justice and inclusive development. She has extensive experience in communications strategy development, public policy engagement and advocacy and institutional strengthening across Africa. A widely experienced development practitioner and facilitator, Sylvia has convened numerous national, regional and global conferences including the African Green Revolution Forum, the Kofi Annan’s Kenya National Dialogue conferences (which aimed to restore peace in Kenya after the post-election violence) and the World Conference on Public Relations in Emerging Economies (WCPREE) held in Nairobi in 2015.

Ms. Mwichuli has led communications, knowledge management and advocacy teams for various leading international organizations including the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, the UN Millennium Campaign, ActionAid and the African Medical Research Foundation. An ardent campaigner who has strong stakeholder engagement and community mobilization skills, she has designed and coordinated implementation of a number of high impact communications and policy influencing campaigns including the globally acclaimed annual Stand Up Take Action Campaign -which involved coordinating hundreds of events across Africa organized simultaneously within a 24 hours period, the Stop Flying Toilets Campaign -which helped reposition AMREF’s global brand and the Beyond Zero Campaign which is currently a flagship campaign by Kenya’s First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta.

Ms. Mwichuli is a highly motivated individual with strong client orientation skills. She works well under pressure and have a proven ability to build cohesive and effective teams in an enabling work environment. She holds an MBA from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Moi University.
