Machine learning & AI

“By engaging with ML technologies at an early stage, development practitioners can help ensure that the people we serve aren’t left behind as our global community embraces  the promise offered by ML and AI.”

– Center for Digital Development, USAID

Technology has developed at an exponential rate in the last 5 years, increasing the potential for catastrophe if not managed properly.

Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) is still being understudied for its implications in global development. Data scientists and researchers agree that the presence of AI increases the potential towards enhanced development needs, such as creating and assessing new development approaches and solutions.

However, there are also potential negative implications in the use of AI without grounded and evidence-based understanding. The use of AI in sustainable development is a possibility to be explored, with the right awareness of limitations and potential.
