ICED’s Cross-cutting Themes

The five Cross-cutting Themes in ICED’s 4x5x5 Framework for Action are the lenses through which ICED conducts the work in all its programs—its projects will be cognizant of these issues. Yet each theme can also be the focus of a particular project or series of projects under the ICED Program, “Evaluation Capacity Strengthening and Profession in Africa”.

They encompass, from ICED’s perspective, critical considerations for successful development and evaluation practice, given our understanding  of the world today.

1. Rigorous and useful Monitoring and Evaluation for development.
2. Culture, context and indigenous perspectives in Monitoring and Evaluation for development.
3. Holism, whole systems and complexity thinking in Monitoring and Evaluation for development.

4. Managing and evaluating for sustained development impact and success.
5. Dealing with transformation, sustainability and resilience in Monitoring and Evaluation for development.
